National Theatre Restaurant
When it comes to culinary delicacies, the Uganda National Theatre Snack Centre is unrivalled, at least in this country. The Foods and Beverages Section offers the best local (Ugandan traditional) dishes suitable for your taste and friendly to your pockets as well.
On Fridays, it’s the famous finger-licking luwombo; the special meal from Buganda that often comprise chicken or beef or goat meat and ground nuts mixed with dry fish or mushrooms –each individual portion steamed in banana leaves. We cannot begin to talk about the malewa (the popular smoked bamboo shoots, the delicacy from eastern Uganda), and eshabwe (ghee sauce) from western Uganda, crowned vegetables and all often served with matooke, rice, mention it!
And you know what; the plates are mega and you are served to the maximum; you just have to make your pick from the beautiful array of African cuisine choices; there’s the best juice and soft drinks to guide the food down while you gaze at the beautiful and unique art pieces that decorate the walls or watch the free entertainment on the strategically positioned television screen.
The Snack Centre is also the best place to taste some of the varieties that make the best barbecue in town; goat meat, sausages, chicken, all roasted to perfection, not forgetting the kacumbani (fresh tomatoes, green-pepper mixed as salad) –what more can you ask for! And anytime you feel like coffee or tea; we are the undisputed connoisseurs when it comes to preparing African tea, black tea and coffee.
And oh, yes, there is a bar too, so you can grab “a cold one” and nurse it while waiting for next performance or waiting for your date!
